Girl sold for $175, rescued!

Desperate refugees sometimes sell their children for as little as $200, and the precious child you see here was sold for only $175. When you watch this video you will see Lana is standing at the very spot where this recent rescue took place. Behind Lana, the river flows across the Thai border into Burma, a crossing that has become a desperate escape route for refugees fleeing the ongoing civil war.

This little girl had been abandoned by her mother at 8 months of age. Her father, who was an alcoholic, resorted to feeding her watered-down, sweetened, condensed milk. He often left her with other alcoholics and was usually found passed out instead of taking care of her.

One day, when he came home from work, he found her gone. She had been taken across the river and sold for $175. For three days, she was lost until our network and incredible rescue team tracked her down in Burma and brought her back to safety.

Now, she is in our care until the father gets help for his alcoholism and can properly take care of her.
