An Unexpected Encounter and an Unprecedented Invitation

Years ago Lana received a prophesy that seemed impossible. “Nations will come to you to set up social welfare systems for their children and you will have access to places no one else can go.” An unexpected encounter in a hospital in Bangkok reminded her that with God nothing is impossible

Lana was sitting in a hospital in Bangkok debating with herself about leaving. She hated hospitals. She hated the smell and seeing the sick people with tubes sticking out of them. She wasn’t sick, she really should leave. But God kept nudging her to stay. She picked up the book God had prompted her to bring, it was “Leadership Gold” by John Maxwell. She had already read it but maybe there was something more in it He wanted her to see.

Large men with bulletproof vests surrounded an East Asian man.

As she was sitting there, still thinking about leaving, she saw a group of men walk into the waiting room. The procession included several large men with bulletproof vests, surrounding an East Asian man.  “Hmmm, I wonder if this guy is important?” she laughed to herself sarcastically. To her surprise, the men sat right behind her. Knowing Asian culture, she moved discretely down so she wouldn’t be right beside them.

She was sitting there, still thinking about leaving, when God said, “Talk to that man..”

“What?!” Lana said. “But I am leaving!”

But she knew what she’d heard so she turned and said politely “Excuse me, sir. I can tell you are an important man, can you tell me who you are?”

Bhutan is a totally closed country in East Asia

The man explained he was the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bhutan.  Lana’s heart started pounding. Bhutan! Bhutan was an almost totally closed Buddhist nation! The king was so strict that he wouldn’t even allow TV in his country because he didn’t want his people being influenced by the West. And here she was talking to the Foreign Minister!

He asked her what she did and she explained how she was helping rescue exploited children on the Thai/Myanmar border and he talked about his work.  Lana looked down at the book in her hand and she knew what she had to do.

“Sir, I can tell you are a great leader and this man trains great leaders in my country. I would like to give you this book.”

The man smiled and accepted the book. To her utter amazement, he, in turn, gave her a commemorative coin from Bhutan, his personal cell phone number, and said “You are welcome to come to Bhutan anytime.”

“You are welcome to come to Bhutan anytime.”

They called her number to be seen by the doctor so she got up, thanked the man and said goodbye. She left, thrilled to know that, because of her obedience, the Foreign Minister of Bhutan was now sitting with a book full of Christian principles in his hand.

God reminded her that day what He had said to her through a prophecy: “Nations will come to you to set up social welfare systems for their children and you will have access to places no one else can go.” Since this time, the Thai and Myanmar governments have done just that and we believe there will be many more countries that will do the same. Life Impact is just getting started.
