The situation on the Myanmar (Burma) side of our border was already pretty desperate. And with the shutdown due to COVID-19 concerns, things have worsened seemingly daily. Now, there have been reports of an official COVID-19 related death. This individual could be linked to the local market and the local authorities have given word that the market will have to be shut down. People are already struggling because of a lack of food, which has made the situation potentially dangerous. In addition to that, our staff also caught an unknown man looking in over the fence at our House of Hope home, we assume he was checking to see what he could potentially steal from us. In this seedy, rugged, “wild west like” border town, robbery is common, even in the best of times. We have already had one motorcycle stolen from inside our gate and we had someone previously try to break in at night while our staff and children were sleeping. Our staff and children are safe and have enough food, but the current situation over the border is not good, especially if they proceed in closing the market as it will impact people who are already struggling and desperate. All in all, the environment is ripe with fear and desperation and we know that things could get worse in the days ahead. We are taking all the precautions we can though and know that no matter what may come, that God is looking out for all of our staff and children! Please be praying for our children and staff though, for God’s continued protection and provision! And please be praying for the people here on our border who don’t know where their next meal will come from. We know that this is a very dark time for so many… We are truly believing that God will use this time for His glory though and that through it, many will come to know Him!
